The Silverstream herd is run on two properties.
The flat block is 1275 acres and sits about 2 metres above sea level. During the summer months 1100 acres is irrigated by a centre pivot and roto-rainer irrigators. The hill block sits only 4km from the boundary of the flat property. This block is 1000 acres and rises to 350 metres above sea level. This block is our wintering block for the cows. We wean our calves at 4 months of age in January and the cows are sent to the hill block which is where they stay until calving time in September. The bulls and all young stock are wintered on the flat property. We also run 1000 finishing steers and heifers 1100 ewes.
